One of three killed in Wichita accident is McPherson woman

Wichita Police identified the three people killed in a Sunday morning car accident that also injured two others. One of the people killed was 21 year old Emily Phillips of McPherson. The others killed were 26 year old Jake Hallacy and 26 year old Zachery Taylor, both men are from Valley Center.

A Ford Expedition driven by 31 year old Juan Gandara-Rodel ran a red light at around 2 a.m. Sunday at the corner of Maple and Tracy in Wichita and hit a Chevy Impala. Phillips, Hallacy and Taylor were in the back seat and not strapped in. They were ejected from the vehicle and each pronounced dead at the scene. The front seat passenger has been treated and released from a local hospital and the driver is still hospitalized. Those names have not been released.

Gandara-Rodel ran from the scene, but was arrested hours later at a home in the 4400 block of South Victoria in Wichita. He was booked around 9 a.m. Sunday for three counts of second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated battery, failure to stop at an accident, reckless driving and disobeying traffic control. Police say alcohol was also apparently involved.
