Lightning struck a chord with voters in this year's "What's Your McPherson?" Photo Contest. Tammy Johnson's winning photo of the McPherson County Courthouse with lightning running horizontally across the background received 159 votes in the online voting. The contest was hosted by the McPherson Convention and Visitors Bureau through their Facebook page. Johnson will receive the $300 grand prize and be featured in the 2015 McPherson calendar. Taking storm photos and videos is a favorite hobby of Johnson and her husband, Kenneth. They were chasing storms in the country without much luck when they decided to stop by the courthouse to try and capture a photo. Johnson has been shooting photos since she was a teen but became serious about photography in the last three years. She has lived off and on in McPherson her whole life and says something about the town always brings her back. Her four daughters and two granddaughters are some of her favorite subject material.
The 2015 calendars will be available in September at the Kansas State Fair and from the McPherson CVB at 306 N. Main St. after Sept. 15.
