LEAVENWORTH — McPherson’s Under-17 American Legion baseball team reached the 30-victory plateau in spectacular fashion late Friday night during the Mid States Regional Tournament.

Cody Starkel and Casen Hoover combined on a no-hitter as Post 24 easily dispatched with tournament host Leavenworth, 10-0.

McPherson, now 30-8, continues on in the double-elimination tourney by playing at 1:30 p.m. today. It must keep winning to stay alive. Last week, it won six straight games in the loser’s bracket of the state tournament to win the championship.

Starkel pitched the first three innings, fanning five. Hoover finished up the final two, as McPherson was able to put the game away in run-rule fashion that was highlighted by an eight-run third inning.

Starkel and Hoover also had the big hits of the game, Starkel a triple and Hoover a double. Starkel finished with three RBIs.
