McPherson High graduate Marissa Axelson has been named as the recipient of the Kansas USSSA Scholarship.
Axelson was a standout outfielder and pitcher during her McPherson High softball career. She helped the Bullpups to a Class 4A state runner-up finish this past spring.
She's also played during the summers for the successful McPherson Lady Express traveling team.
She graduated from MHS with a sterling 3.94 grade point average and was a two-year member of the National Honor Society, as well as a four-year member of the Bullpup Scholars Program. She already has received the Kansas State Activity Scholarship for academic and leadership accomplishments.
According to a press release, she says her mother, Pam, has had the biggest influence on her life. She has followed her mother’s advice of setting her goals high and working hard to achieve them.
She will be the first of her family to attend college. She plans to major in architecture engineering and her goal is to finish a five-year program in four years.
Her goal in life is to have her own engineering firm and live in a bigger city.
