McPherson Police Chief Robert McClarty outlined the timing for the reduced speed in school zones in the City of McPherson at Monday's City Commission meeting. McClarty said, "The lights are flashing and enforced during the before school time from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., at lunchtime from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and in the afternoons from 2:50 p.m. until 3:30 p.m."

Those enforcement times will remain the same through August 28th. Beginning August 29th, the midday enforcement will go away in most of the school zones. However, there are two exceptions. On Northview by St. Joseph's, they will continue with the midday enforcement, and on Avenue A by Roosevelt Elementary, they will continue with the midday enforcement. The quantity of foot traffic on Northview and Avenue A is such that those zones still need to be enforced, but once kindergarten goes to full day at the other schools, the traffic will reduce to the point that midday enforcement is not required.
