McPherson College’s volleyball team encountered only one brief hiccup as it opened its season Tuesday night at the Sport Center with a 3-1 victory over Manhattan Christian.

The Bulldogs won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-17 before slipping up in a 25-15 third-set loss. They quickly rebounded to close out the match, 25-17.

All-KCAC preseason pick Cortlynne Huppe put down 10 kills and also had three assisted blocks. Phoebe Barton was tops in assists with 17, followed closely by Taylor Johnson with 13. Maci Grimes was credited with a team-high 13 digs. Lindsay Moss was tops in blocks with four.

Mac coach Susan Barton praised the play of Huppe, Micah Murray and Emily Warner.

The Bulldogs will take advantage of the Labor Day holiday to head to Florida for the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Volleyballfest. They will play four matches in two days.
