McPherson College’s women’s soccer team opened its season by stepping up in class here Thursday, falling 7-2 to No. 24-ranked Benedictine.
It was a good game early, as the teams swapped goals in the first 30 minutes, with Mac’s coming by Rhea Vale, assisted by Morgan Anderson.
But two goals in less than three minutes by Benedictine opened things up and the Ravens added another goal before the first half reached conclusion for a 4-1 lead.
Cydney Lewis added a second-half goal for Mac.
Benedictine rattled off 28 shots to just three for the Bulldogs. Caitlyn Blagrave was under siege all night in goal for the Bulldogs, but did come up with seven saves.
Jordan Franceson led the Ravens with two goals, while five players tallied one each.
The Bulldogs head off to Colorado for two games in two days. They play Dakota Wesleyan on Sunday, and Johnson and Wales on Monday. Mac returns home Sept. 6 against Midland University.
