Bethany College’s men’s golf team has been ranked 20th in The Golf Coaches Association of America preseason poll.
Oklahoma City and defending national champion Coastal Georgia are ranked 1-2.
The Swedes, who finished in 15th at last year's NAIA Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla., welcome back four of the five players who competed at nationals. They will also return seven of the nine golfers who played in the KCAC Championships.
Ben Johnson, a senior from West Sussex, England, is expected to be the Swedes’ top player. He was named to the NAIA PING All-Region team, NAIA Nationals All-Tournament Team, NAIA 3rd-Team All-American, NAIA Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar and a KCAC Scholar-Athlete. Johnson finished tied for 12th at last year's nationals. He was named KCAC Golfer of the Week three time last spring.
Jose Acevedo, a sophomore from Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, will also return from the last year's team. He also finished in the Top 20 for the Swedes at nationals. He shot a three-round total of 218, and finished tied for 19th. Acevedo also had a Top 10 finish at the KCAC Championships and was named KCAC Golfer of the Week last season.
Returnees Greg Miller and Matt O'Neill are others who competed at nationals and also earned All-KCAC honors. Miller finished the KCAC Tournament in fourth place and O'Neill finished just outside the Top 10 as he finished in 12th.
"It is nice to be recognized by other coaches," Bethany coach Jon Daniels said. "That is one of our goals and we will see how the season unfolds."
Last year the Swedes captured their second conference championship in three years. In the KCAC Championships, Bethany College entered nine golfers and each finished in the Top 16. Lewis Blair, Josef Loughlin, and Olly Rubenstein all played in the KCAC Championships and return for the Swedes.
