St. John senior Dean Wade, who played in the McPherson College Summer Basketball League as well as with McPherson High seniors Kyler Kinnamon and Payton Stephens for the highly successful Mid Kansas traveling team, has made a verbal commitment to Kansas State.
Wade told The Wichita Eagle in today’s edition that “I love the fans and the coaching staff.”
Wade becomes third-year coach Bruce Weber’s first-ever Kansas recruit.
Wade, 6-9 and 210 pounds, is the 107th-ranked senior in the country by Rivals.com after being outside of the Top 150 at the start of the summer.
Playing for coach Clint Kinnamon, Wade averaged 21.9 points, 8 rebounds and 3.7 blocks. He twice has helped the Tigers to the Class 2A state title as they look for the 3-peat this year.
Among the other schools who had offered Wade was Wichita State.
