McPherson High’s soccer team begins its season today with the first of six straight road games.
The Bullpups travel to Mulvane to kick off their season, with the JVs playing at 5:00 and the varsity at 6:30.
MHS is coming off a tremendous 18-2-1 season, but must replace a nine-member senior class that helped the team finish third and fourth, respectively, in the 4A State Tournament in the last two years.
Coach Chris Adrian believes his team has the necessary reinforcements to keep the tradition going. The Bullpups showed a lot of offensive potential last Friday in their Fall Sports Preview scrimmage with numerous splendid goals. The key, he said, is developing a strong defense as the Bullpups lost everybody from that unit.
Mulvane typically isn’t one of the stronger teams on the schedule. Thursday’s game, however, should be more of a measuring stick when MHS goes to Hays. That’s the final tuneup before next week’s Maize South Invitational.
The Bullpups do not grace the McPherson Stadium fake grass until Sept. 18 when they host Salina South.
