US Senator Jerry Moran was in McPherson on Tuesday to tour Wear Technology.
Wear Technology manufactures and repairs screws and barrels for the plastic extrusion industry. Larry Catton established Wear Technology in 1984. The current facility opened in 1986. Milacron purchased Wear Technology in 1998 and added the barrel operation to the existing screw operation. The facility is three times as large today as it was when Milacron purchased it.
Mid Kansas Online asked Senator Moran what he learned on Tuesday. He said, "What struck me today is the reminder that while plastics is front and center, all this other industry has grown up around it, that serves the plastics industry, as does Wear Technology. This is a company that benefits from the fact that plastics is here. It's the kind of thing we need to replicate, we need to recreate across our state, where there is basic manufacturing. We know other businesses will come."
