SALINA — McPherson’s seventh-grade volleyball team split its season opener against Salina Lakewood on Tuesday.

The Bullpups won a three-setter from Clay Center (25-18, 24-26, 15-4) and lost to host Lakewood (11-25, 16-25).

“We played really well for our season opener,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “We did a nice job at the net and served pretty well against Clay Center. Lakewood had some great servers and we had a difficult time adjusting on defense.”

The B-team swept its matches, 25-13, 25-18 against Clay Center and 25-17, 14-25, 15-11 against Lakewood.

“I was really proud of how well the girls played for their first game,” MMS coach Abby Bradstreet said. “Overall we served the ball well. It will be fun to watch this group of girls develop their skills over the season.”

The Bullpups host a triangular on Tuesday.
