A semi fire near the McPherson-Harvey County line on I-135 closed the interstate both northbound and southbound between exits 40 and 48 for several hours Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Twitter feed of KHP Trooper Ben Gardner, the KHP received the call shortly after noon Wednesday of a semi on fire at I-135 between mileposts 43-44. The fire was quickly put out, but some of its hazardous load spilled causing continued traffic closure.
Southbound traffic exited at exit 48 and headed south into city of Moundridge to Old 81 Highway, while northbound traffic exited at Hesston and was directed to go east to K-15 to continue northward travels.
Southbound traffic resumed around 4:30, and northbound traffic resumed between 5 and 5:30 p.m. but in just one lane with reduced speeds through the area.
