The fourth edition of the Lindsborg Battle of the Buses to raise money for the Lindsborg Hospital's Pink Fund is going on September 13th, with the bus pull to begin at noon in the south parking lot of Scott's Hometown Foods in Lindsborg.
Teams of ten people or fewer pay a one hundred dollar entry fee to be a part of a timed competition pulling Nicki, the 100 foot pink fire truck provided by the Wichita Chapter of the Guardians of the Ribbon. Over its history the Battle of the Buses has raised nearly 12 thousand dollars for the Pink Fund.
The theme this year is "Rockin' for a Cause!". Also on display will be a pink wooden rocking motorcycle which is beginning its tour to raise funds for the Pink Fund. An event to draw a winner from opportunities purchased will be held in the Summer of 2015.
Also at the event will be the pink corn header involved in "Cut for a Cure". "Cut for a Cure" is the idea of Clarence Patmon and Karla Pihl. Patmon is the shop foreman at Pihl Repair and Farms in Falun. Farmers can pledge to leave corn in their fields and Patmon will use the pink header to harvest the corn. The corn will then be delivered to the Mid-Kansas Coop elevator in Lindsborg, and proceeds from those dedicated crops will be split between the Tammy Walker Cancer Center in Salina and the Lindsborg Community Hospital Pink Fund.
The fun begins with Swedish Pancakes from the Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers at 9 a.m., registration for the pull closes at 11 a.m., and the pull begins at noon. More information and registration forms are available at the hospital's website at lindsborghospital.org.
