LINDSBORG — Bethany College’s volleyball team was in good position Wednesday to open the KCAC portion of its schedule successfully.

The Swedes dominated Bethel 25-11 and 25-20 in the first two sets, but the Threshers pulled a 180 and rebounded for 25-16, 25-20 and 15-11 victories to secure the victory.

"We played very well in the first two sets," Bethany coach Nathalea Stephenson said. "Our whole game plan was working with us controlling the tempo of the game. The heat was getting to us in set three and we started cramping up and the officials felt we needed more water breaks. So every eight points we took a water break and then an eight-minute break with no warm-up and I felt it hurt our momentum. I was proud of the way we fought and hustled."

Alexa Gerber and Bryanna Cool notched 13 kills apiece for the Swedes. Ariel Buhr was tops in digs with 15.

Bethany, 0-2 on the season, returns to action on Friday and Saturday at the Avila University Tournament in Kansas City, Mo. On Friday, the Swedes play Benedictine College at 10 a.m. and Stephens College at noon. Saturday, the Swedes battle Peru State College at 2 p.m. and host Avila University at 4 p.m.
