WICHITA — Brittani Moreland scored a pair of goals Wednesday to propel Friends University’s women’s soccer team past Central Christian College, 3-0.

The Falcons led 2-0 at the half and Moreland provided the only second-half goal.

CCC’s Twila Smedley had six saves in goal. Marianna Mercer and Amanda Curtis placed shots on goal for the Lady Tigers, but to no avail. The Lady Tigers hung tough despite the fact they have only one sub.

“Our fitness continues to improve, which helped our overall defense,” CCC coach Scott Fogarty said. “It allowed our midfield to show more fight today despite the continued hot weather, but our attack wasn't as promising as it was a few days ago. Despite some moments of quality passing in the 1st half, our ability to create (scoring chances) in the second half was non-existent."

The Lady Tigers, now 0-2, host Saint Mary at 3 p.m. Friday.
