TESCOTT — It was an historic day Thursday as Inman competed in its first-ever cross country meet by running in the Tescott Invitational.
And the Teutons did quite well.
Caleb Renner took second in the boys’ race in 19:00.6, trailing only Winter Wiebke of Lincoln (18:19.1).
IHS’ Tobias Belknap also medaled by taking 15th in 22:04.3.
For the Teuton girls, Kaylee Bauman medaled as she was 23rd in 23:32.4 as the top 25 runners were rewarded.
“Overall I was pleased with how the runners performed,” Teuton coach Jay Parsons said. “I told the runners I wasn’t looking for any particular time and/or place. I was looking for them to compete the best they could and finish the race. My goal for them at this meet was understanding what it was all about. I think, to some degree, that happened. Now that they have competed in a race, we know more than we did and now have something we can work with. Like any other sport, we needed to know where were so that we would know how to improve.”
Canton-Galva also competed in the meet.
Lane Wiens medaled for the boys by taking 12th in 21:59 and Brittany Dieker did likewise in the girls’ race in 21:39 for 18th.
“With the temperature at race time at 94 degrees and with the high humidity, I thought the kids did pretty well for the first meet,” Eagle coach Lyle Silsby said. “It is a smaller meet and all the kids brought home a medal in their respective race. We look forward to the coming cooler weather as we prepare for the Hesston meet next Thursday.”
