MC spikers drop two; host CCC tonight

HASTINGS — After a hot start to its season, the McPherson College volleyball team has leveled off.

The Bulldogs came flying out of the gates this season with a 4-0 record, but they’re now 4-4 after losing two matches Saturday against bigger-school competition.

Mac lost a 3-1 verdict to Hastings College, which improved to 9-2 with the win. The Bulldogs’ victory came in the third set, 25-21.

Mac’s Cortlyne Huppe had eight kills in the match, while adding five blocks. Taylor Johnson’s 17 assists were tops. Emily Warner recorded a team-high 19 digs.

Mac then went up against Benedictine and lost in all three sets. Huppe had 10 more kills. Jill Johnson came up with a team-high four blocks, Taylor Johnson notched 17 assists and Warner furnished 10 digs.

The Bulldogs are right back on the court tonight when they host Central Christian College at 7:00.
