WICHITA — Friends University came away with two of the three football awards given today by the KCAC as the first full week of action took place this past Saturday.
Friends' Sequente Marks has been named Defensive Player of the Week and his teammate Derek Racette was tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week following a 33-7 win over Doane (Neb.) on Saturday.
Simon McKee of Tabor has been named the first Offensive Player of the Week.
Marks, Racette and McKee were selected KCAC Astroturf Players of the Week from a pool of nominees by vote of conference Sports Information Directors for their performances during the week of Sept. 1-7.
Marks came up with an interception on Doane's first possession and returned it 54 yards to the 10-yard line, and then followed up with 69-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. He compiled six tackles and added a pass breakup.
Racette, son of former McPherson College standout Sean Racette, averaged 48.5 yards per punt with a long of 54 yards in the Falcons’ victory.
McKee, playing in his first game since tearing his ACL last season, showed no signs of rust as he helped lead the No. 8-ranked Bluejays to a 36-0 rout of Nebraska Wesleyan University. He finished with 210 yards of total offense, carrying the ball 17 times for 91 yards and a rushing touchdown, while completing 8-of-12 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.
