“Rivalry Week” between McPherson College and Central Christian College began on Monday with the Bulldogs taking the first event.
The schools meet in three sports this week, with Monday night’s volleyball match kicking things off.
The Bulldogs, entering on a four-match skid, got back on the positive side with a 3-0 victory over the Lady Tigers.
With their intensity ramped up behind a vocal Sport Center crowd, the Bulldogs rolled to 25-22, 25-19 and 25-13 victories.
All-KCAC preseason pick Cortlyne Huppe threw down 13 kills to lead the Bulldogs, with Taryn Lee and Taylor Johnson adding seven apiece. Johnson was all over the floor with 20 assists and nine digs. Emily Warner was tops in digs with 14.
Mayuko Shono led CCC with eight kills. Kasi Kraus notched 25 assists, while Ciara Costello came up with 15 digs.
Mac returns to KCAC play Wednesday hosting Southwestern. Central, now 2-5, hosts Union College and Kansas Wesleyan on Thursday, with starting time 6 p.m. CCC also is home for a triangular on Saturday with Bethel and Hillsdale Baptist providing the opposition. That has an 11 a.m. start.
