BUHLER — It’s quite clear that McPherson has some outstanding girls cross country runners on the horizon.

Both the seventh- and eighth-grade girls emerged as champions from Tuesday’s Hutchinson Invitational that was contested at Prairie Hills Middle School.

MMS’ Natalie Hedlund won the seventh-grade girls division in 7:07, while the eighth-grade girls triumphed behind MaryAnn Wurm, who was sixth in 16:08, one place ahead of teammate Katie Bahr (16:11.4).

The Bullpup eighth-grade boys were sixth, led by an 11th-place finish by Aron Trost (14:34.5). The seventh-grade boys were 11th, topped by Dalton Wilson’s 24th-place finish (7:18.7).

“The kids had a tough day today with the combination of heat, wind and hills,” McPherson coach Gentry Nixon said. “The meet was run on the Prairie Hills Middle School course, which is the same course that the high school and college run on. It's a challenging course. However, we still managed to turn in some good times and they definitely showed some guts today.”
