MC spikers log first conference win

McPherson College’s volleyball team leveled its KCAC record at 1-1 here Wednesday night with a narrow 3-2 victory over Southwestern.

The Bulldogs, moving to 6-4 overall, won the first (25-17, 25-2) and third sets (25-17), but Southwestern forced the 15-point decider by winning the fourth set, 25-19.

The Bulldogs trailed early in the final set, but used a 6-0 sizz to eventually secure the match by a 15-10 count.

Mac’s Cortlyne Huppe was her usual beast at the net with 17 kills and made only one error. Taryn Lee added 10 kills.

Taylor Johnson and Phoebe Barton logged 28 and 20 assists, respectively. Dig leader was Emily Warner with 27.

The Bulldogs will rest up this weekend as they do not return to action until Wednesday with a road trip to always strong Tabor College, one of the KCAC’s tri-leaders. Match time is 7 p.m.
