LINDSBORG — Avila University handed Bethany College’s women’s soccer team a 2-0 setback on Wednesday.

Last week’s NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week Caryn Welch scored one of the Eagles’ goals, the other was by Haley Gatts.

The Swedes were hampered when two-time KCAC Offensive Player of the Week Sarah Henderson left the game with an apparent injury.

"It was a night that could have gone either way," Bethany coach Sean McMannis said. "One minute Avila was on the attack and the next we were. But it came down to two mental mistakes that Avila capitalized on and we couldn't answer. We turn our attention to Missouri Valley on Friday now."

The Swedes take a 2-3 record into that road game on Friday.
