HUTCHINSON — McPherson College’s cross country team finally opened its season Saturday, the last sport to get under way.
The Bulldogs competed at the Romp at the Ridge, hosted by Hutchinson Community College. Eleven full women's teams and nine men's teams competed in the meet.
For the men, Chris Le was the first to come in at 28:05.6 and was followed by Dixon Cooney (28:20.4). Kurt Katzdorn, Chris Newell and Michael Janzer were all within 20 seconds of each other, running times of 28:43.0, 28:48.5 and 29:02.4, respectively. Jordan Bost (30:38.3), Jonathan Dominguez (31:46.5), David Friessen (32:51.4) and Karl Timmerman (36:27.4) also competed. The Bulldogs scored 107 points to put them in fourth with an average time of 28:36.0 for the top five runners.
Tops for the Mac women was Savana Cross, who ran 19:54.8 to finish sixth overall. Laura Gibson (20:56.8), Heidi Lyne (22:27), Miranda Clark Ulrich (22:39.6), Damaje Markham (24:58.3) and Lauren Wankum (29:08.4) also competed. The Bulldogs finished seventh out of the 11 schools with a score of 169 and an average time of 22:11.3
The Bulldogs compete in two weeks at Hillsboro.
