Central Christian College’s volleyball team came away with another split on Saturday, though it was disappointed it didn’t pull off the sweep.

The Lady Tigers let a great chance to topple KCAC member Bethel College get away. CCC won the first two sets (25-22, 25-20), but lost the final three (22-25, 24-26, 11-15).

Hannah Crandall hustled to a whopping 47 assists. Mayuko Shono slammed down 20 kills and Ciara Costello dug it out 26 times.

Undaunted, the Lady Tigers stormed back and took out their frustration on Hillsdale Baptist (25-19, 25-16, 25-20). Crandall compiled another 27 assists, Brittany Bergstrom threw down 10 kills and Costello was the team leader in digs with 17.

CCC is now 4-7 on the year, but could easily be better as twice it has had 2-0 leads in matches only to let it slip away.

“Sweeping Hillsdale in the second match was clearly the highlight of the day" CCC coach Christina Ludwick said. "Hillsdale beat us twice last year, so sweeping them was definitely a positive. The lack of mental toughness in the first match, however, has been a consistent problem this year. We do a lot of good things on the front end, then let it go to waste at the end of the game."

CCC hosts MCAC powerhouse Bellevue University on Friday. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Jerry E. Alexander Arena.
