SALINA — After suffering three straight heart-wrenching three-set losses in pool play, Moundridge’s volleyball team righted the ship in bracket play to emerge with a 2-3 record in the Southeast of Saline Invitational on Saturday.
The Wildcats lost to Beloit (22-25, 28-26, 25-27), Hillsboro (25-21, 19-25, 16-25) and Salina South (24-26, 25-19, 20-25) in pool play as they could just have easily been 3-0.
In bracket play, the Wildcats outlasted Concordia (27-25, 12-25, 25-22) and Beloit (25-20, 25-22).
MHS coach Kelsi Chisholm lauded her team for not hanging its head after the tough losses.
“The girls played tough in pool play against some very competitive teams,” Chisholm said. “Even though we went 0-3 in pool play, I thought we played our best ball then. When our offense was clicking we were winning and when it wasn't we struggled. Defensively, we played consistent and our serve receive also did a really good job today. It was great ending the day with two wins.”
