McPherson Fire Chief Jeff Deal recommended to the City Commission on Monday a new ordinance with regard to deliberate and false pulls of fire alarms at institutions and industries in the City.

The ordinance now includes language that charges back to the individual institutions or industries the costs for the fire call in the case of a deliberate pull of the fire alarm when there is not an actual blaze.

This does not extend to malfunctions of an alarm system that result in a call, this is just for those occasions where an alarm is pulled and the department is unable to determine who caused the false alarm.

In those cases, the institution or industry affected can be fined up to $500 for the false alarm.

The ordinance passed unanimously.
