MAIZE — McPherson High’s Patrick Munsey was named to the Maize South Invitational’s All-Tournament Team in a vote of soccer coaches on Saturday.
The Bullpups were 2-1 in the tourney for fifth place, losing their opener to Hays before coming back with a pair of impressive victories over Maize South and Wichita Independent.
Erik Barragan of Garden City was the tournament MVP.
Other players chosen were David Amaro and Kevin Juardo of Garden City; Jack You, Eduardo Gonzalez and Tophy Park of Thomas More Prep; Jose Ponce, Erik Hernandez and Gabe Rivera of Salina South; and Riley Zimmerman of Hays.
A somewhat surprising omission was MHS’ Andric McGill, who scored five goals in the Bullpups’ three games.
Garden City defeated Thomas More Prep 3-2 in the championship match. Salina South outlasted Hays 4-0 for third, McPherson blanked Wichita Independent 3-0 for fifth and Maize South buried Word of Life 10-0 for seventh.
MHS, 3-1-1 on the season, is on the road tonight at Winfield.
