The McPherson Chamber of Commerce held their annual celebration with the theme Night at the Museum on Tuesday at the new McPherson Museum at 1111 East Kansas. As part of the evening's festivities, longtime McPherson resident and newly elected State Senator from the 35th District, Richard Wilborn, was honored with the President's Award.
Wilborn told Mid Kansas Online's Joe Johnston, "Obviously, an honor like this, there are so many people that are deserving. To be singled out, to be presented that award is truly an honor, for someone who has been here forty-five years, who has always cared about the community, not with an honor in mind. It was just a matter of energy and following suit of the tradition that's here."
Also, in his remarks to the gathering, Wilborn thanked Jim Ketcherside and Keith Birkhead, his mentors at Farmer's Alliance for their leadership and for challenging him to be the best he could be both personally and professionally within the community.
Wilborn also cited his family, neighbors and friends. He said, "at the end of the day, that's who makes you who you are."
