United Way of McPherson County will sponsor a reading session on Saturday, September 27, 2:00 p.m., at the Marquette Community Library in conjunction with Marquette’s Autumn in the Valley Festival. The session will feature “Show You Care – VOLUNTEER,” a book written by local United Way director Anne Kirchner.
“The book is designed to teach children the importance of giving back to one’s community,” said Kirchner. “Volunteerism is a tremendous tool, and it is never too early to start talking with children about the importance of giving, sharing and caring for others in the community.”
The book includes discussion questions that can be used by parents, caretakers, teachers and others to facilitate conversation about volunteerism and community involvement. Books are currently being distributed to Pre-K and Kindergarten children throughout McPherson County as part of a reading initiative sponsored by United Way.
The book’s publication is made possible through a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation’s Children’s Fund administered by the McPherson County Community Foundation.
