Bulldog spikers put early scare into KW

SALINA — McPherson College’s volleyball team won the first set from KCAC co-leader Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday, but the Coyotes charged back to take the last three in the conference matchup.

Mac is now 1-3 in the KCAC and 6-7 overall, as it later lost a match with Bellevue to complete the triangular.

Against KW, Mac was solid in posting a 25-18 first-set victory. But the Coyotes didn’t allow the Bulldogs to think upset by coming back for easy 25-11, 25-14, 25-14 victories.

Lindsay Moss and Cortlyne Huppe threw down 12 kills apiece and Huppe also came up with three blocks. Phoebe Barton’s 21 assists were a team high, while Emily Warner continued to be the team’s dig leader with 25.

MCAC member Bellevue swept the Bulldogs in three sets — 25-20, 25-16, 25-19.

Taylor Johnson shined in defeat with team highs in digs (10) and assists (14). Taryn Lee came up with 10 kills.

Bellevue edged Kansas Wesleyan in a length five-setter to complete the day.

The Bulldogs play host to the other KCAC leader, Friends, on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m. Mac also hosts Ottawa on Friday and Bethany on Saturday as it’s a busy week.
