LINDSBORG — Ellea Ediger and Madison Hoffman brought home singles championships Saturday for McPherson High’s tennis team as the Bullpups had little trouble cruising to the championship of the Smoky Valley Invitational.
Ediger was 5-0 at No. 1 and Hoffman was 5-0 at No. 2 to help MHS to 85 points, well ahead of runner-up Sterling (64).
Smoky Valley (57) was third, followed by Hayden (54), Pratt (46), Buhler (45), Marysville (40), Collegiate (30), Wichita Independent (15) and Colby (12).
The Bullpups also had a nice day in doubles, even though MHS coach Tyler Brown rested his defending Class 4A champions Emily Ediger and Camry Holle.
Katlyn Reifschneider and Rachel Ivers combined to go 4-1 for second place at No. 1, while Caroline May and Ashley Venable were 4-1 for second at No. 2.
The Bullpups play in perhaps their toughest tournament of the year next Saturday when they compete in the Wichita Collegiate Tournament of Champions, which normally gathers only the elite programs in the state from various classes.
