Pine Village is excited to announce that one of their caregivers, Laura Erb, will receive the 2014 “Caregiver of the Year” award for her excellence from LeadingAge Kansas for her service to elders at Pine Village. The Award will be presented on October 1, 2014, at the LeadingAge Kansas Awards Banquet in Manhattan, Kan.

Erb has been working with the elderly for nearly 29 years. As a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) in Pine Village’s Assisted Living, Erb is more than just a caregiver, she is a friend.  According to residents and staff, Laura Erb is “special”, “trustworthy”, “caring”, “genuine”, “loving” and “comforting”.  Because Erb has the true knack for bringing people together, she’s recently added the title of “Life Enrichment Specialist,” where she assists in the coordination of activities and events for the Pine Village campus.

“Actions speak louder than words. In aging services, it is often the small daily adjustments that can make the largest impact on an elder’s quality of life,” said Debra Zehr, CEO & President of LeadingAge Kansas.  “In one story about Laura, we learned how she takes extra time in visiting with residents to learn more about them and what they enjoy. Taking a personal notice, Laura has found common interests and will often include residents in her own day-to-day activities.”

Through her daily work, Erb is raising awareness of the value and professionalism of caregivers in Kansas. Erb receives this award from LeadingAge Kansas, a statewide association of 160 not-for-profit aging services providers dedicated to serving the needs of over 20,000 seniors in Kansas each day. This annual award is presented to a LeadingAge Kansas member’s activity professional, social worker, nurse, nurse aide, dietary or environmental services employee who demonstrates remarkable commitment to the elders they serve.
