Her life-long inspiration from the works of Birger Sandzen led artist Joanne Nuss to Bethany College many times and most recently to donate one of her original cast-bronze sculptures to the college.
Titled “Offering I” the bronze sculpture is from a series that was created with the idea that all life is both a gift and an offering. The sculpture that Nuss has given to Bethany was inspired by the fields of golden wheat that she loved as a child growing up in Kansas.
Nuss currently lives in Great Bend, Kansas, but has lived in Albuquerque and remembers visiting Bethany College as a little girl.
“I remember my mother taking me by the hand through the Sandzen gallery here when I was child,” she said. “I just knew when I saw his work, that’s what I wanted to do.”
