An early morning fire at the Lakeside Plaza Apartments in McPherson did not result in any injuries, thanks to smoke detectors.

According to official reports, fire crews were called out at 3:43 this morning. McPherson Fire Chief Jeff Deal told Mid Kansas Online that one of the apartments in the 723-725 building at the complex was fully involved when fire crews arrived. Another unit was called including the aerial apparatus, because it was a two story structure and fire was going through the roof. All the occupants, both human and animal, were evacuated safely.

Deal said, "We attacked the fire defensively from the ladder and got the rest of the knockdown taken care of, and got the fire mostly under control at that point."

Apartment manager Bonnie Hoffman told Mid Kansas Online that seven families were affected in the building with the blaze, but most of those families have local places to stay until the extent of the damage is known. The fire is still under investigation at this time.
