LINDSBORG — Somebody was going to earn their first conference volleyball victory Wednesday when Bethany College hosted Southwestern as both teams started the night 0-4 in the KCAC.

It proved to be Southwestern.

The teams were as even on the court as on paper as it took five sets before the Moundbuilders won the fifth, 24-22.

"I am very proud of the way the girls fought in sets one, four and five tonight," Bethany coach Nathalea Stephenson said.

BC’s Bryanna Cool had a team-high 15 kills. She also had four digs and assisted on two blocks. Chanelle McCormick and Whitney Williams each had eight kills for the Swedes. McCormick chipped in with three block assists, while Williams had eight assists, five digs and two assists. Alexa Gerber had seven kills to go along with her 13 digs. Ariel Buhr had a game-high 19 digs for Bethany College.

The Swedes, 3-11 overall, will host McPherson College at 2 p.m. Saturday.
