The Board of McPherson County Commissioners issued a proclamation at their meeting Monday morning designating October as McPherson County Manufacturing Month.
As part of that proclamation, MIDC Executive Director Brad Eilts gave some of the statistics to support the assertion that McPherson County's industrial base is one of the deepest in the Midwest for a county its size.
Eilts said, "McPherson County has over fifty manufacturers creating more than 5,500 direct industrial jobs with an annual payroll that exceeds $200 million. These industrial jobs support local businesses and create additional "spin off' or indirect jobs, touching all aspects of our economy."
Eilts also reminded the Commissioners that an open house and tour of Viega LLC at 2211 Viega Avenue is scheduled for Friday, October 3rd. Viega is a manufacturer of cross-like polyethylene (PEX), fittings, accessories and tools for plumbing and hydronic markets.
Tours will begin at 8:00 a.m. and be conducted every half hour until noon. If you'd like to participate, you must go online to www.mfgday.com and complete the "attend event" section.
Also, Johns Manville will be having their 40th anniversary celebration October 10th, as well.
