McPherson BPU unveils new website

The McPherson Board of Public Utilities is proud to announce the launch of their newly designed website – www.mcpbpu.com. This fresh format expands on the existing website, allowing customers greater control of their energy usage and management of their account.

Customized modules on the new site can assist customers in learning more about their electric and appliance usage patterns, common safety practices, as well as guidelines to reduce energy usage, and as a result, save money.

One of the new modules, Kid’s Korner, is specially designed to engage and educate children on different types of energy and energy characteristics, safety measures, and energy conservation in a fun, informative layout with different games and graphics that aid in the learning process.

Another focal point features an existing portal within the website, SmartHub, the BPU’s customer account management system. SmartHub provides convenient online account access to customers via a computer or a mobile device. This system lets customers manage payments, check energy usage, and review the history of their account, in addition to a number of other convenient and helpful features.

“Our team has worked hard to make the new site attractive, as well as functional,” said Brad Eilts, Marketing Director for the BPU. “The website puts a new face on the Utility.”He added, “The energy calculators and all the interactive features of the site are both user-friendly and informative.”

Eilts is referring to the Home Energy Calculator module. This free and easy-to-use feature lets users input data related to their specific home appliances, air conditioning/heating systems, lighting, thermostat settings, usage patterns, and other housing information. With this information, the program, which is customized with area climate characteristics, normal energy use patterns and the BPU’s utility rates, assists in creating energy-saving scenarios that can be performed to pinpoint various opportunities for savings.

The BPU chose to work with Apogee Interactive because of their focus on designing websites for utilities and understanding of the issues that are important to utility customers. “Apogee brings cutting-edge energy efficiency materials and access to our customers, which were huge selling points for us,” said Eilts.
