Fearless picks MHS to make it 3 straight

There are whispers going around the predicting circles that Fearless Forecaster is losing his edge.

Sure, he was 11-3 in last week’s games. But for the year, he’s 47-19 (71 percent) and rumors around the industry are that he’d better start picking it up or he’s going to be traded in for a younger, cheaper model.

Fearless’ misses last week included Smoky Valley’s loss to Halstead, and two more KCAC games as he’s really struggled in those — a depleted McPherson College team knocking off Kansas Wesleyan, while FF was shocked — SHOCKED ! – that Bethany went absolutely flat in being routed, at home no less, by previously winless Saint Mary.

Fearless shouldn’t feel too bad since picking the KCAC is brutal this year. After all, Tabor is 2-0, Southwestern is 0-2 and the other eight teams are 1-1. Talk about parity.

• McPherson 33, El Dorado 14  — The Bullpups make it three in a row against perhaps the weakest team on their schedule.

• Augusta 24, Galena 13 — A somewhat odd nonconference game for the Orioles. Since it’s their homecoming, I’m assuming Galena is not too strong. The Bulldogs are 1-3, including a 16-12 loss to small-school power Pittsburg Colgan.

• Buhler 35, Rose Hill 14 — The Crusaders appear to be the class of the division.

• Silver Lake 28, Winfield 14 — Another odd choice of out-of-league opponents. Silver Lake is a small-school power and Winfield has perhaps been the division’s most disappointing team.

• Last week — 3-0. Season — 12-4.

• Central Plains 56, Canton-Galva 14 — Central Plains could be a state champion.

• Moundridge 13, Inman 6 — The battle for county bragging rights goes to the Wildcats.

• Hesston 38, Haven 14 — The Swathers are looking like a team that could make a deep playoff run.

• Smoky Valley 27, Hillsboro 21 — The Vikings took a shot to the gut last week. This week is gut-check time.

• Little River 42, Goessel 14 — The Redskins get back on track.

• Last week — 5-1. Season — 18-4.

• KCAC •

• Ottawa 38, McPherson College 27 — The Bulldogs finally finish a run of four road games in five weeks.

• Sterling 24, Bethany 14 — That Warrior defense is pretty stout.

• Saint Mary 31, Bethel 24 — The Threshers are no longer the easy mark, but winning at Saint Mary can be a chore.

• Tabor 31, Southwestern 10 — The only unbeaten team against the only winless team. No brainer.

• Friends 42, Kansas Wesleyan 35 — Will the real Friends Falcons please stand up?

• Last week — 3-2. Season — 17-11.
