PRATT — McPherson’s seventh-grade football team continues to play teams close, but can’t seem to get over the hump.

Pratt scored a touchdown with 30 seconds left in the game Thursday for a 14-8 lead and then shocked MMS by recovering an onside kick to preserve the victory.

Neither team scored in the first half, but MMS took the second-half kickoff and drove down the field to score for an 8-0 lead on a touchdown by Kaleb Hoppes.

With the game tied in the fourth quarter at 8, MMS drove all the way to the Pratt 1, but fumbled. The Bullpups then were stunned three plays later when Pratt hit on a long pass to win the game. It was its first completion of the game.

Hoppes rushed for 92 yards while Landon Frantz added 52. Tyson Gottwald was 4 of 6 for 69 yards.

MMS, still looking for its first win, plays Thursday at Salina Lakewood.
