PRATT — McPherson’s eighth-grade football team found itself down 16-0 at the half to Pratt on Thursday and despite winning the second half 12-6, it came up on the short end of a 22-12 decision, its first loss of the year after three wins.
“We did not move the ball offensively and defensively we did not want to tackle,” MMS coach Brandon Labertew said. “We played better both offensively and defensively in the second half. We need to come out and start games with more intensity and confidence.”
Kyler Hoppes and Elijah Muehler hooked up twice for touchdowns, one from 61 yards and the other from 22. Hoppes finished the day 6 of 15 for 142 yards, 122 of those by Muehler. The Bullpups’ ground game, so strong through three games, hit a brick wall with just 50 yards on 20 attempts.
Jace Kinnamon and Shane Starkel were top tacklers with five apiece.
MMS is home Thursday to take on Salina Lakewood.
