EMPORIA — McPherson’s seventh-grade volleyball team lost a hard-fought five-setter to Emporia on Thursday.
The Bullpups lost the first two sets (12-25, 17-25), but stormed back for 25-21, 25-17 victories. In the decider, Emporia was a 15-11 winner.
“We came back after dropping the first two sets and did some things really well,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “We started making adjustments on serve receive and attacking at the net. In the fifth set, it was tied 9-9. We just had too many unforced errors and that allowed Emporia to close out the win. Missed serves were a factor for us all night and Emporia served the ball well. I was proud of the hustle and effort the girls showed, but this was a tough loss.”
MMS’ B-team lost in four sets (21-25, 25-12, 21-16, 12-25).
“The girls played really hard today,” MMS coach Abby Bradstreet said. “Our serving was the best it has been all season with N'Dya Collins making all of her serves. Our passing was better today, Emporia simply outplayed us. We need to work on moving with the ball and keeping our energy up the whole game.”
Both MMS teams play Saturday at Salina Lakewood.
