Mac spikers go across town for sweep

McPherson College’s volleyball team completed a season sweep of crosstown rival Central Christian College on Saturday at the Jerry E. Alexander Arena.

Mac defeated the Lady Tigers in rather convincing fashion, 25-12, 25-18, 25-17. 

Cortlyne Huppe led the Bulldogs in kills with nine, one more than Taryn Lee. Taylor Johnson hustled to 27 assists and Emily Warner claimed 22 digs.

Mayuko Shono led CCC in kills with nine. Hannah Crandall scrambled to 22 assists and Ciara Costello was tops in digs with 11.

For good measure, the Bulldogs defeated Central Christian College of Bible 25-16, 25-15, 25-17 to complete the triangular 2-0. Huppe and Lee notched 12 and 11 kills, respectively, Johnson had 31 assists and Warner dug out 13 balls.

The Bulldogs, now 9-10 overall, head to Leavenworth on Wednesday to play Saint Mary.

The Lady Tigers finished 1-1 on the day as they also defeated Central Christian College of Bible in four sets (25-21, 18-25, 25-13, 25-18). CCC is now 5-14 overall.

Shono had 10 kills, Crandall totaled an amazing 36 assists and Costello lit it up in digs with 19.

Central goes to Union College on Thursday as it tries to sweep the season series.
