WICHITA — McPherson High's junior varsity volleyball team started slow and finished fast Saturday in the Bishop Carroll Invitational.
The Bullpups lost to Kapaun (22-25, 29-27, 18-25) and Maize South (25-27, 22-25), but came back with decisive wins over Class 6A schools Wichita Northwest (25-15, 25-18) and Wichita North (25-15, 25-10).
"It was a lot of fun to coach them for the first time this year and to watch them come back from so far and ending up and winning the second set (against Kapaun) to go on and play the third set," said MHS coach Emile Blakesley, who normally coaches the freshmen but was filling in on this day. "Too bad we couldn't pull off the the third set, but it was a great experience and fun to be around girls with a lot of excitement."
MHS’ next action is Tuesday at Augusta.
