Band and choir members from community colleges in Kansas will gather at Bethany College on Thursday, October 30 for a day-long workshop and 5 p.m. performance in Presser Hall. This is the first year Bethany has offered the Junior College Honor Band and Choir workshop and will bring together musicians from at least six community colleges across the state.
“Our intent is to provide an atmosphere in which junior college most talented students may join together with others to make music in a non-competitive environment,” Professor Claudio Re, director of bands at Bethany College, said.
Re, along with Professor Mark Lucas, director of choirs and department chair at Bethany, will conduct rehearsals beginning at 10 a.m. the day of the workshop. Band and choir members will rehearse individually and combined in preparation for their concert that evening. The concert is free and open to the public.
Junior colleges participating in the workshop include: Allen Community College, Iola; Hutchinson Community College; Colby Community College; Fort Scott Community College; Cloud County Community College, Concordia; and Pratt Community College.
