Christmas of 2014 will make the 34th year that the Kiwanis Club of McPherson has sponsored the Christmas Food Basket project for less fortunate residents of McPherson and McPherson County.

The McPherson Lions Club and the McPherson Boy Scouts have provided valuable help in the collection of food and the distribution of the Christmas baskets.

This year, the annual food drive will be Saturday, November 22nd. The drive is an effort to collect non-perishable food items from citizens and businesses.

Based on prior years, the Club anticipates having to purchase additional non-perishable items to supplement those collected in the food drive. The Club also purchases all of the perishable food items included in the baskets. The cost of the additional purchases will be between $4,000 and $5,000.

You can help by donating money, having an employee food drive, volunteering to pick up food on November 22nd, preparing food baskets for distribution, and/or distributing food baskets on December 13th.

Food not distributed for the Christmas baskets will be donated to the McPherson County Food Bank.

If you'd like to help, you can call Kiwanis President Glenn Gayer at 245-2729.
