SALINA — McPherson’s seventh-grade football team had an offensive explosion on Thursday against Salina Lakewood, but unfortunately the Mustangs had one as well.
Lakewood kept the Bullpups searching for that elusive first win of the year by outscoring MMS, 50-28.
Had it not been for a 24-0 first-quarter hole, the game would have been interesting.
“I was proud that although down a bunch early, we didn't quit and came right back down the field to score,” MMS coach Nick Griggs said.
Landon Frantz was magnificent in defeat as he scored all four Bullpup touchdowns. Other big days, according to Griggs, were turned in by Tyson Gottwald, Kvon Richardson and Mason Thrash.
“It's been a tough year, but we are a better football team now than we were at the beginning of the year despite several injuries,” Griggs said.
The Bullpups play a pair of games in Haysville next week to finish the season, one Tuesday at Haysville Middle School and the other Thursday at Haysville West.
