HESSTON — The Hesston High volleyball team knocked off a pair of ranked teams during a sweep of the Garden Plain Round-Robin Tournament on Saturday.
The Swathers were 5-0 on the day, including wins over ranked teams Andale (25-17, 28-26) and Garden Plain (25-14, 26-24).
Hesston also defeated Pratt Skyline (25-8, 25-14), Wichita North (25-13, 25-21) and Lakin (25-23, 25-13) as it went up against schools from a variety of classes.
“We have had a very long and competitive week, winning all nine matches we played but had six of those matches that included at least one set where we had to come from behind or win a 2-point set,” said Hesston coach Jason Peters, whose team is now 24-2. “It has been a great week in terms of playing some good competition and having to perform under pressure, which continues to prepare us for the postseason. Our hitting and defense continues to improve, and if we can continue that consistency, we should be a tough team to compete with in the coming weeks.”
Caylee Richardson totaled 40 kills on the day. Jessanna Nebel was credited with 75 assists. The digging was balanced with several players contributing.
Hesston plays Tuesday at Smoky Valley.
