The McPherson City Commission on Tuesday reauthorized the New Construction Homebuyer Incentive Program for one more year. The program rebates new homeowners a portion of the city's share of property taxes on the first $200,000 value of a newly constructed home, and also gives the homeowner a one-time cash payment of $2000 for closing costs.

McPherson City Treasurer/Finance Director Mark Moffitt explained to the Commission that the program has resulted in the construction of seventeen single family dwellings in both 2013 and 2014 through the first three quarters of each year, and that nearly eight million dollars worth of construction in the past two seasons qualified under the program.

As a contrast, in 2011, prior to the program's implementation, only twelve single family dwellings were constructed.
