HAYSVILLE — McPherson’s seventh-grade football team put it all together for its first win of the season Tuesday, a 28-8 shellacking of Haysville.
“We played tough right from the start,” MMS coach Nick Griggs said. “We only had one turnover, which ended up being Haysville's only score, and we took care of the line of scrimmage on offense pretty consistently all game long. I’m really proud their effort resulted in a win. They have had a tough season and played some teams very close. It's nice to get one in the win column.”
Touchdowns were scored by Landon Frantz, Tyson Gottwald, Kaleb Hoppes and Mason Thrash. MMS led 20-8 at the half.
Frantz rushed for 90 yards on 11 carries and Hoppes had 80 on 15. Gottwald was 4 of 6 for 64 yards, with Kvon Richardson catching two for 47. Thrash was the tackle leader with six, while Frantz and Riley Koehn had interceptions and Jakob Feil recovered a fumble.
The Bullpups return to Haysville Thursday to play the other Haysville team (West), which reportedly is the stronger of the two.
